26 April 2017: KAP Member for Kennedy, Bob Katter has today been fulsome in his praise for KAP State Member Shane Knuth with news that the Palmerston Highway, which links the Atherton Tablelands to the Cassowary Coast, will get $3m in State funding for upgrades.

“I can’t help but praise my KAP colleague, Shane Knuth. Shane insisted that we do a big push on getting the Palmerston Highway funding and within 4 weeks Shane gets the funding,” Mr Katter said.

KAP State Member Shane Knuth said, “While I’d love to see an overhaul of the whole Highway, this funding will no doubt make a difference to all road users”.

“Tens of thousands of people use this road every week, from prime movers to tourists, locals and the general public. The complaints have been growing by the day. Safety must be a priority and I’m confident that the whole region will benefit from this funding,” said Mr Knuth.

Mr Katter added that, “the Palmerston has been a key highway providing us with alternative markets for farming. We need these extra strings to our bow. The Palmerston will be a major route for the banana industry and for horticulture product. It links world class tourism attractions, MAMU Tropical Skywalk, the most magnificent waterfall circuit and on the coast white water rafting, sky diving, scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef and most of all Paronella Park”.

Mr Katter and Mr Knuth both thanked the State Minister for Main Roads, Mark Bailey and the Government for the funding.
