State Govt neglect of North Qld exemplified by Barron River Bridge debacle
KENNEDY MP, Bob Katter, says the Queensland Government’s ongoing neglect of North Queensland is exemplified by their inability to act on the Barron River Bridge debacle, which has seen the important Kennedy Highway route down to one lane, with major traffic delays, for nearly a year.
Tropic Now Magazine is reporting that the State Transport Minister won’t decide on what to do with the bridge until late next year, and a report into possible alternate highway routes, which was due last month, has not been completed yet.[1]
Mr Katter has been strongly campaigning for construction of the Kuranda Bypass (Bridle Track Highway) as soon as possible, which will allow residents to drive from Mareeba to Cairns in 20 or 30 minutes compared to the current one-hour journey.
He said he shared the frustration of the Tablelands and Cairns communities over the Queensland Government’s lack of action.
“I have to believe in Heaven and Hell, because these people have got to burn in Hell,” he said.
“Let’s look at their record. They can find $10b plus for an Olympic Games extravaganza party in Brisbane. They can find $10b for an underground rail line in Brisbane that no-one asked for and no-one needed. And yet they leave us in the Far North with a major highway permanently down to one lane with no solution in sight.
“Anyone that votes for them in the next election should be ashamed of themselves. They are traitors to the people of North Queensland. They betray their own tribe when they vote for these bastards. They murder little children before they are born. They want to kill old people before they die a natural death. They don’t care how many First Australians die of malnutrition. They apply Covid-19 restrictions to everyone other than elite sports people and movie stars.
“We will never be free from Brisbane unless we vote differently. We will never have prosperity unless we can build the roads, dams, rail lines, mines and transmission lines that will develop our homeland. A land that would be the wettest country on earth if it was a separate country. A land rich in minerals and of rich soils.”
